Counsellor Psychotherapist, N2

Sarah Aldridge, Counsellor and Psychotherapist, East Finchley

Hello. As a therapist, I offer a space to explore together past and current difficulties to gain a better understanding and insight into why you might be feeling stuck or repeating difficult patterns. People come to therapy for different reasons:

  • anxiety and depression
  • family and relationship difficulties
  • bereavement and loss
  • life changes or a major life event
  • trauma or crisis situations

Talking to a therapist in a safe, confidential space can allow issues to be thought about differently and worked through together.

I am an experienced therapist, trained in Couple Therapy for Depression and an accredited DIT(Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy) Practitioner. I have started training in EMDR and can offer sessions for a reduced fee.  I am an accredited member of the BPC, the BACP and for supervision BAPPS.

The practice is in East Finchley. There is free parking and easy access to public transport. I also offer remote sessions, telephone or video.

I offer short-term and open-ended therapy. Please contact me if you would like to find out more or to arrange an initial meeting: Email: Mobile: 07932 656906

Why Therapy?

I see therapy as the process that encourages people to understand themselves more deeply. The way in which our minds work is shaped largely by our early experiences, although this operates generally outside our conscious awareness.

In therapy sessions you will have the space to express and reflect upon your feelings and concerns. This involves exploring early experiences and developing a better understanding of unconscious motivations and repetitive patterns of relating.  Being heard properly for the first time can often be an important first step in the process.  It can help build understanding of relationship dynamics, as an individual or as a couple.

It may take some time but can lead to greater acceptance and self-confidence, which will enable you to lead a more productive and fulfilling life. You might be feeling overwhelmed and not wanting to handle difficulties without support; or be feeling confused, conflicted and just need help to understand things more clearly.

People come for therapy for:

  • Depression and feelings of emptiness
  • Sexual and relationship problems
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Difficulties in your working life
  • Divorce and separation
  • Abuse and the effects of trauma
  • Physical issues linked to emotional stress
  • Difficult family dynamics
  • Anxiety and panic attacks

I offer supervision to individuals where we work together to develop a deeper understanding of your clients in a safe and confidential space – a time to openly explore and think about the work.

My original orientation is psychodynamic but through my experience with supervisees from integrative, psychodynamic and person-centred backgrounds, I can share a broad perspective in relation to how you work and your supervision needs.

My supervision experience includes NHS and private practice – some experienced, trainees and others just starting out in their practice.  I have been working as a therapist over 12 years and have experience in the NHS, private and the voluntary sector. I have a Diploma in Psychodynamic Supervision from the Society Analytical Psychology and am a member of BAPPS – British Association for Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Supervision.
